Wed May 09 2007: Our Lakers are pleased to announce the appointment of Brendan Carey as our new Director of Marketing and Promotions for the summer in prepartion for the Lakers upcoming hockey season.

Wed Feb 28 2007: In West Lorne the North Middlesex Stars defeated the Lakers by a score of 4-3. The Lakers were trailing 2-1 when Steve Boniferro's wrist shot from the slot tied the game with 11 minutes remaining in the 3rd period. The Stars scored a power play goal one minute later to take a 3-2 lead. North Middlesex scored an empty net goal with 42 seconds left before Ryan Roke scored with 9 seconds remaining to narrow the defecit to 4-3. Matt Willis scored the other Lakers goal. Greg Thompson scored twice for the Stars while Jimmy Stubbs and Nic Meidinger each had one goal. The Lakers put up a valiant effort in this game playing without leading scorer Matt Bartoch who suffered a season ending injury in overtime of game 5. Despite the fact the 1st place Stars were overwhelming favourites it was tremendous hockey all series that was played by two evenly matched teams. North Middlesex wins the series 4-2.
Sat Feb 24 2007: In Parkhill the North Middlesex Stars defeated the West Lorne Lakers by a score of 3-2 in double overtime. Matt Bartoch opened the scoring midway through the 2nd period when he batted the puck in from the side of the net. Jeff Kimel gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead when he split the Stars defence and scored on a breakaway deke one minute into the 3rd period. Greg Thompson scored both North Middlesex goals with 3:21 remaining in the 3rd period then again with 1:23 left and with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker. TJ VanEngelen banged in a loose puck 5:49 into the 2nd overtime session to give the Stars the victory. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers.
Wed Feb 21 2007: In West Lorne the North Middlesex Stars defeated the Lakers by a score of 4-1. Matt Bartoch scored the only goal for West Lorne. Stephen McLinchey scored twice for North Middlesex while Patrick Callaghan and TJ VanEngelen each scored once. The Stars 4th goal was into an empty net. West Lorne outshot North Middlesex 32-27. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers.
Sun Feb 18 2007: In Parkhill the Lakers defeated the North Middlesex Stars by a score of 4-2. Matt Willis, Kyle Maister, Steve Boniferro, and Ryan Roke scored for the Lakers. Paul Vanlieshout and Craig Furtney scored for North Middlesex. The Stars built a 2-0 lead three minutes into the 1st period. With the score tied 2-2 Steve Boniferro's point shot midway through the 2nd period proved to be the game winner. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for the Lakers.
Sat Feb 17 2007: In Parkhill the Lakers defeated the North Middlesex Stars by a score of 6-4. Matt Bartoch scored three goals for the Lakers while Jason Korman scored twice and Mike Dufton had one goal. Stephen McLinchey, Greg Thompson, Kaylan Balcom, and TJ VanEngelen scored for North Middlesex. Mike Dufton scored the winning goal with twelve minutes remaining in the game when he banged home the loose puck on a scramble in front of the net. Brandon Palmer made a tremendous breakaway save with five minutes left to preseve the 5-4 lead. Matt Bartoch added an empty net goal with 6 seconds remaining in the game.
Wed Feb 14 2007: In West Lorne the North Middlesex Stars defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-2. Matt Bartoch and Ryan Campbell scored for the Lakers. David Royackers, TJ VanEngelen, Jason Thompson, Trevor Turner, and Bryan Richarson scored for North Middlesex. With the score tied 2-2 the Stars scored a shorthanded goal with 8:19 remaining in the 3rd period to take the lead. North Middlesex added another before scoring their fifth goal into an empty net. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. West Lorne outshot North Middlesex 40-34. The Stars lead the series 1-0.
Sun Feb 11 2007: Matt Bartoch is the league scoring champion with 83 points.
Sat Feb 10 2007: In Belmont the Central Elgin Express defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-4 in overtime. Ryan Roke scored twice for the Lakers while Matt Bartoch and Ryan Campbell each scored once. Campbell's backhander with one second remaining in the 3rd period sent the game into overtime. Alex Waugh scored twice for Central Elgin including the winning goal 3:46 into overtime while Ian McCullough, Sonny Daniels, and Tyler Dedecker each scored once. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers.
Wed Feb 07 2007: Matt Bartoch and Matt Willis have each been named as Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League award winners. Bartoch is the all star centre and most valuable player while Willis is the all star left winger.
Sat Feb 03 2007: In Mount Brydges the West Lorne Lakers defeated the Bulldogs by a score of 9-6. The Lakers trailed 3-2 after one period of play. In the 2nd period Matt Bartoch scored his second goal of the game while on the power play. Steve Kewley then made a nice pass to Ryan Roke who scored his second goal of the game when he deflected the puck past the goaltender while shorthanded for a 4-3 lead. Trevor Vandenberg scored a shorthanded breakaway goal minutes later to put the Lakers ahead 5-3 midway through the period. The Bulldogs scored the next two goals to make it 5-5 after two periods. Ryan Campbell scored two goals in the 3rd period on wrist shots from the slot and set up Matt Willis on another who deflected Campbell's pass into the net. The Bulldogs added one more before Steve Kewley scored into an empty net. Dan Taylor scored twice for Mount Brydges while Jeff Bradley, Ben Morgan, Jon Fletcher and Ben Hillen each had one goal. Lakers goaltender Liam Nediger picked up the win in relief. Mount Brydges outshot West Lorne 45-40.
Wed Jan 31 2007: In West Lorne the Mitchell Hawks defeated the Lakers by a score of 7-6. Ryan Campbell, Jason Korman, Matt Bartoch, Trevor Vandenberg, Matt Willis, and Ryan Roke each scored once for the Lakers. Kurtis Bailey, Kyle Verberne, Tyler Elligsen, Ryan Baetz, Dave Verberne, Jeff Walt and Travis Watson scored for Mitchell. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. West Lorne outshot Mitchell 51-42.
Sat Jan 27 2007: In Parkhill the West Lorne Lakers defeated the North Middlesex Stars by a score of 7-6. The Lakers trailed 3-2 after the 1st period and 5-4 after the 2nd period. Jason Korman scored from the side of the net to tie the game at 5-5 with 11:46 remaining in the 3rd period. Jeff Kimel's wrist shot from the slot put the Lakers ahead 6-5 with 8:34 remaining. Ryan Campbell scored his second goal of the game on a wrist shot to the top corner with 4:25 remaining in the game to give the Lakers a 7-5 lead. North Middlesex added a late goal with 46 seconds remaining. Ryan Roke, Matt Bartoch, and Kraig McGaffey also scored for the Lakers. Greg Thompson, Stephen McLinchey, Jason Thompson, Jason Harvey, Paul Vanlieshout, and Bryan Richardson scored for North Middlesex. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for the Lakers.
Wed Jan 24 2007: In Lucan the West Lorne Lakers defeated the Lucan Irish by a score of 5-2. Trevor Vandenberg scored twice for the Lakers while Steve Kewley, Matt Bartoch and Matt Willis each scored once. Trevor Medeiros and Dan Crowley scored for Lucan. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for West Lorne. The Lakers won in Russ Morningstar's head coaching debut. Morningstar was head coach with both the Strathroy Rockets and London Nationals for the past six years. Morningstar is a former Lakers player and was head coach with the Lakers for three seasons including leading the Lakers to a championship in 1999-2000.
Wed Jan 17 2007: In West Lorne the Lambeth Lancers defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-3. Jason Korman, Jeff Kimel, and Ryan Roke scored for the Lakers. Dave Schlotzhauer, Brent Cunning, Owen Herman, Bobby Cook, and Mike Kowalik scored for the Lancers. Lambeth outshot West Lorne 47-40.
Sat Jan 13 2007: Matt Bartoch has been named SOJHL player of the month for December.
Fri Jan 12 2007: In Thamesford the West Lorne Lakers defeated the Trojans by a score of 8-6. Ryan Roke scored four goals and added one assist for the Lakers, while Matt Willis and Matt Bartoch each scored once and added three assists. Tyler Smith and Jeff Kimel also scored for West Lorne while Charlie Iscoe added three assists. Zack Yeo, Jamie Jongsma, Grant Thomas, Eric Kimberly, Josh VanEck, and Tom Burns scored for Thamesford. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for the Lakers.
Wed Dec 27 2006: The West Lorne Lakers are having minor hockey night on Wednesday December 27 at 8:15 pm in West Lorne vs Central Elgin Express. Wallacetown native Jordan Shine who plays for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League will be a special guest at the game. All minor hockey players will be admitted free and will have a chance to win many prizes including a Jordan Shine London Knights replica sweater, a pair of hockey gloves, and one piece composite hockey sticks.
Wed Dec 27 2006: In West Lorne the Lakers defeated the Central Elgin Express by a score of 10-6. The game was played before a large crowd on minor hockey night with special guest Jordan Shine of the London Knights in attendance. Matt Bartoch had six goals and two assists, Matt Willis had one goal and five assists, while Kyle Maister, Justin Rowles, and Alex Wolfe each scored once for the Lakers. Ryan Roke added six assists. James Garvin, Ian McCullough, Kyle Kirby, Adam Elliott, Craig Moore, and Jared Anger scored for Central Elgin. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Central Elgin outshot West Lorne 53-45.
Fri Dec 22 2006: In Exeter the West Lorne Lakers defeated the Hawks 8-7 in a shootout. Matt Bartoch had three goals and two assists for the Lakers, Ryan Roke had two goals and three assists, and Ryan Campbell and Trevor Vandenberg each scored once. Jeff Smale and Troy Elder each scored twice for Exeter while Ryan Abrams, Drew Bayliff, and Jake Jeffrey each scored once. The Lakers trailed 4-1 after the 1st period and were trailing 6-2 before scoring three goals in the last 4:32 of the second period. Exeter also added one more goal to lead 7-5 after two periods. The Lakers scored twice in the final period to send the game to overtime including the game tieing goal when Trevor Vandenberg banged home a rebound with 2:24 remaining in the 3rd period. After a scoreless overtime Lakers goaltender Brandon Palmer stopped both shooters he faced while Matt Bartoch and Ryan Roke each scored for West Lorne to give the Lakers a dramatic come from behind win in a shootout.
Wed Dec 20 2006: In West Lorne the Thamesford Trojans defeated the Lakers by a score of 6-3. Ryan Roke, Matt Willis, and Matt Bartoch scored for the Lakers. Randy Kilburn scored three goals for Thamesford while Grant Thomas, Tommy Johncox, and Zach Yeo each scored once. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Thamesford outshot West Lorne 45-30.
Fri Dec 15 2006: At Western Fair Arena in London the Lambeth Lancers defeated the West Lorne Lakers by a score of 5-3. Ryan Campbell scored twice for West Lorne and Justin Rowles scored once. Travis Schruder and Brad Young each had two goals for Lambeth and Jake Powell had one goal. The Lancers scored four of their goals while on the power play. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Lambeth outshot West Lorne 38-30.
Wed Dec 13 2006: In Lucan the Irish defeated the Lakers by a score of 6-4. Ryan Campbell, Steve Kewley, Trevor Vandenberg, and Matt Bartoch scored for the Lakers. Trevor Liddle scored twice for the Irish while Trevor Medeiros, Jeff Silver, Justin Lightfoot, and Pat Flood scored once. Liam Nediger & Brandon Palmer were in goal for West Lorne. The Lakers were down 4-1 after the 1st period but tied the game at 4-4 six minutes into the 3rd period before Lucan scored twice more for the victory.
Mon Dec 11 2006: The West Lorne Lakers are pleased to annouce that defencemen Justin Rowles and Steve Boniferro have been selected to play in the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League All Star Game in Port Dover on Jan 13.
Sat Dec 09 2006: In West Lorne the Mitchell Hawks defeated the Lakers by a score of 7-6. Matt Bartoch scored twice for the Lakers while Ryan Campbell, Tyler Smith, Matt Willis, and Kraig McGaffey each scored once. Kyle Verberne and Dan Graul each scored twice for Mitchell while Kevin Baetz, Steve Henderson, and Dave Verberne each scored once. Mitchell erased defecits of 4-1 and 5-3 to come back and win the game. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers.
Wed Dec 06 2006: In West Lorne the Lucan Irish defeated the Lakers by a score of 4-2. Matt Bartoch and Jason Korman scored for the Lakers. Bob Martin scored twice for the Irish while Derek Liddle and Trevor Medeiros each scored once. The Irish scored their 4th goal into an empty net. Brandon Palmer was in goal for West Lorne. Lucan outshot the Lakers 47-37.
Wed Nov 29 2006: In West Lorne, the North Middlesex Stars defeated the Lakers 5-4 in a shootout. Jason Korman put the Lakers up 2-1 late in the 1st period when he scored on a breakaway deke while shorthanded. With the Lakers trailing 4-3 late in the 2nd period Ryan Campbell tied the game at 4-4 on a wrist shot while heading down the right wing side. Matt Willis and Matt Bartoch also scored for the Lakers. Stephen McLinchey scored twice for North Middlesex while Brent DeGroot and Nic Meidinger scored once. After a scoreless overtime Jeff Kimel and Matt Bartoch were both stopped on their shootout attempts before Matt Willis scored on his. North Middlesex scored on their 2nd and 3rd shootout attempts. Liam Nediger was in goal for the Lakers. The Stars outshot the Lakers 39-33.
Fri Nov 24 2006: In Mitchell the Lakers defeated the Hawks by a score of 6-5. The Lakers were trailing 5-4 when Kyle Maister tied the game on a nice deflection up and over the goaltender from a Justin Rowles point shot with 4:56 remaining in the 3rd period. Maister then scored the winning goal and his second of the game 26 seconds later on a wraparound. Oliver Shanks, Kraig McGaffey, Ryan Campbell, and Jeff Kimel also scored for the Lakers. Kyle Maister also added one assist for a three point night. Kurtis Bailey, Jeff Walt, Scott Lealess, Ryan Aibuthnot, and Ryan Baetz scored for Mitchell. Liam Nediger was solid in goal for the Lakers as he made 40 saves to earn the victory.
Wed Nov 15 2006: In West Lorne the Mount Brydges Bulldogs defeated the Lakers by a score of 6-5. Matt Bartoch scored twice and added two assists while Jason Korman, Matt Willis, and Kraig McGaffey each scored once for the Lakers. Kevin Eichenberger scored twice for the Bulldogs including the winning goal on a power play with 1:14 remaining in the game while James Dausett also had two goals and Brian Burke and Dan Taylor each scored once. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Mount Brydges outshot West Lorne 43-38.
Sat Nov 04 2006: In Parkhill the North Middlesex Stars defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-3. Ryan Campbell, Justin Rowles, and Rick Buncick scored 1st period goals to put the Lakers up 3-0. Stephen McLinchey scored twice for the Stars while Bryan Oosterhuis, Sean Davidson, and Nic Meidinger scored once. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers.
Fri Nov 03 2006: In Glencoe, the West Lorne Lakers defeated the Lambeth Lancers by a score of 8-5. Matt Bartoch and Oliver Shanks each scored twice for the Lakers while Mike Dufton, Steve Boniferro, Kraig McGaffey, and Karl Schramowsky each scored once. Matt Bartoch's second goal of the game was a tremendous end to end rush in which he deked around both Lancers defenceman before snapping a shot in the far corner. Bartoch also added 3 assists. Brad Young, Kevin Burke, Dave Schlotzhauer, Mike Cashen, and Tyler French scored for the Lancers. Liam Nediger picked up the win in goal for the Lakers. West Lorne outshot Lambeth 38-29.
Wed Nov 01 2006: In West Lorne, the Lakers defeated the Mount Brydges Bulldogs by a score of 4-3. Jeff Kimel scored twice for the Lakers while Matt Bartoch and Rick Buncick each scored once. Ben Hillen, Chris McDougall, and Jeff Bradley scored for Mount Brydges. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for the Lakers. Mount Brydges outshot West Lorne 41-33.
Sat Oct 28 2006: In Belmont the Lakers defeated the Central Elgin Express by a score of 9-3. Matt Willis and Ryan Campbell each scored three goals for the Lakers while Kyle Maister, Tyler Smith, and Matt Bartoch each scored once. Matt Willis, Kyle Maister and Jason Korman all added two assists. Colin Bruce, Mark Matschke, and Adam Elliott scored for Central Elgin. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for the Lakers.
Fri Oct 27 2006: In Mitchell the Hawks defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-3. Matt Bartoch scored twice and Ryan Campbell scored once for the Lakers. Matt Willis added two assists. Kyle Verberne scored twice for the Hawks while Dave Verberne, Kurtis Bailey, and Travis Watson scored once. Three power play goals by Mitchell in the 2nd period proved to be the difference. The Hawk's 5th goal was into an empty net. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Shots on goal were 35-26 in favour of Mitchell.
Wed Oct 25 2006: In Lucan the Irish defeated the Lakers by a score of 7-3. Justin Rowles, Matt Bartoch, and Matt Willis scored for the Lakers. Dan Crowley scored twice for Lucan while Luke McClarey, Pat Flood, Matt Blane, Jeff Silver, and Kevin Dean scored once. Lucan's 6th and 7th goals were into an empty net. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Lucan outshot West Lorne 41-35.
Wed Oct 18 2006: In West Lorne the Lakers defeated the North Middlesex Stars by a score of 6-5 in overtime. Matt Bartoch, Matt Willis, and Jeff Kimel each scored twice for the Lakers. Bartoch added two assists. Sean Davidson scored twice for the Stars while Jason Thompson, Greg Thompson, and Patrick Callaghan each scored once. Jeff Kimel scored his second goal of the game from the side of the net on a nice pass from Ryan Campbell with 9:46 remaining in the 3rd period to tie the game at 5-5. Matt Bartoch scored the winning goal 3:01 into overtime when his wrist shot from the slot was partially stopped by the Stars goaltender but the puck went over him and trickled over the line. Liam Nediger picked up the win in goal for the Lakers. North Middlesex outshot West Lorne 33-31.
Sun Oct 15 2006: In Exeter the Hawks defeated the Lakers by a score of 4-2. Jeff Kimel scored twice for the Lakers while Tyler Smith and Ryan Campbell each had two assists. Scoring for Exeter were Jake Jeffrey with two while Jon Conrad and Jeff Smale each scored once. Exeter's 4th goal was into an empty net as the Lakers tried to tie the game. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers.
Sat Oct 14 2006: In Mount Brydges the Bulldogs defeated the Lakers by a score of 4-3 in overtime. The Lakers were trailing 3-2 when Matt Willis made a nice breakaway pass to Matt Bartoch whose initial shot was stopped but Rick Buncick banged in the rebound with 1:10 remaining in the 3rd period to tie the score at 3-3. Jason Korman and Oliver Shanks were the other goal scorers for the Lakers. Kyle Boylt scored his second goal of the game on a power play 46 seconds into overtime to give the Bulldogs the victory. Dan Taylor and Ben Hillen also scored for the Bulldogs. Liam Nediger was in goal for the Lakers. West Lorne outshot Mount Brydges 41-40.
Wed Oct 11 2006: In West Lorne the Lakers defeated the Central Elgin Express by a score of 7-3. Mike Dufton and Matt Willis each had two goals for the Lakers while Keegan Howlett, Rick Buncick, and Alex Wolfe each scored once. Matt Bartoch added three assists. Goal Scorers for Belmont were JD Beavis with two and Curtis Prikken with one. Rick Buncick's goal on a tremendous pass from Jeff Kimel put the Lakers up 5-3 one minute into the 3rd period. The Lakers added two more goals in the 3rd period to put the game out of reach. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal. West Lorne outshot Central Elgin 44-39.
Wed Oct 04 2006: On Wednesday in West Lorne the Thamesford Trojans defeated the Lakers by a score of 7-2. Matt Willis and Matt Bartoch scored goals for the Lakers. Scoring for Thamesford were Marcel Ianni and Justin Harburn with two each while Jamie Jongsma, Josh Van Eck, and Trevor Dickson each added singles. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. Thamesford outshot West Lorne 45-34.
Mon Oct 02 2006: In West Lorne the Lucan Irish defeated the Lakers by a score of 5-4. Tyler Smith scored twice for the Lakers while Jeff Kimel and Karl Schramowsky each scored once. Matt Bartoch had two assists. Dan Crowley scored two goals for the Irish including the game winner with 30 seconds remaining in the 3rd period while Kevin Dean, Adam Hartman, and Mike Carson each scored once. Brandon Palmer was in goal for West Lorne. The Lakers outshot the Irish 56-29.
Fri Sep 29 2006: On Friday at Nichols arena the Lambeth Lancers defeated the West Lorne Lakers by a score of 5-2. Jeff Kimel and Rick Buncick scored goals for the Lakers. Spencer Shaw, Bobby Cook, Dave Schlotzhauer, Mike Cashen, and Travis Schruder scored for the Lancers. Brandon Palmer was in goal for the Lakers. West Lorne had 19 minor penalties and Lambeth took 9 minor penalties.
Sat Sep 23 2006: In Exeter, the Hawks defeated the Lakers by a score of 6-1. Dan Moir, Jeff Smale, Scott Muirhead, Jake Jeffrey, Drew Bayliff, and Jason Stuckless scored for Exeter. Karl Schramowsky scored the only goal for the Lakers on a nice individual effort before shooting the puck high over the goaltender. Liam Nediger was in goal for the Lakers.
Wed Sep 20 2006: On Wednesday in West Lorne the Lakers defeated the Central Elgin Express by a score of 6-1 in their home opener. Matt Bartoch scored twice for West Lorne while Rick Buncick, Kyle Slater, Brendan Carey, and Matt Willis each added one goal. Justin Rowles and Matt Willis each had 3 assists. Mark Matschkea scored for Central Elgin. The Lakers scored 3 power play goals and had one shorthanded goal. Brandon Palmer picked up the win in goal for the Lakers. Shots on Goal were 45-38 in favour of West Lorne.

Fri Jun 23 2006: Our league has a new name! We are now the Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League (SOJHL). Starting this season, the League will now allow teams to sign a maximum of four overage players up from last year's limit of three.
Tue Apr 11 2006: The West Lorne Lakers are pleased to annouce Shawn Muscutt as the new head coach. Shawn who resides in Dutton has playing and coaching experience in the Junior D League. He also has been a head coach with the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs.
